The decisive difference to my previous work in this series is the fact that at the beginning of the painting process I have no idea what the painting will ultimately look like. Apart from the intention to paint a picture, there is initially neither a basic thematic nor compositional idea. It all begins with me sitting on the raw canvas and producing random, child-like scribbles. Occasionally I look at the scribbles from a distance or different angles until something in them evokes the first figurative association. It seems as if from then on the picture itself tells me what it wants to become. Consequently, I try to follow the chain of ideas it evokes and force myself to bring every spark of thought onto the canvas.
